Baby Modeling Agencies - Your 3 Most Common Questions Answered

In my last post I already addressed the question of how to recognize 'scam' from legitimate baby modeling agencies. So for this post I wanted to continue the Q & A theme and answer the 3 questions, I am most often asked by moms who are just looking to get their baby into modeling.

Hopefully you'll take something away for yourself that will help you and your little one succeed.

1. Do I need to get professional photos, acting classes or clothes for my baby before I begin my search?

The short answer to this is "NO". To explain - you don't need any of these upfront. If you have these, fine, but if you don't no worries, because the baby modeling agency you select to represent you will have their own photographer and will at least be able to recommend an acting class for your baby if it's even needed.

It's way better to leave it until after signing up - because then you know that you're complying to the agency's standards. And you save yourself having to redo stuff if it's not up to standard...

2. How and where should I look for a baby modeling agency?

This one is easier than you'd think. Start online - any agency worth while will have a website. Search on Google for "baby modeling agency" and do your research.

You can also look at YellowPages for extra info. More importantly though, make sure to have a list of 3-5 agencies in your local area. Then do a decent research on their background, talents, how long they've been in business, who uses them, testimonials etc.

Make sure you like what you see. Then call them on the phone and speak to them. If you like them, arrange a meeting and then make your decision. Remember to use your 'mum instinct' - if the baby modeling agency sounds 'fishy' - it probably is...

3. Do I need an agent / representative?

Not usually. Although having an agent can sometimes bring benefits, it will most definitely mean less profit for you. At the end of the day it is up to you. Most baby modeling agencies act as an agent for you and your little one so if your ambitions are moderate - their help will suffice.

If you dream of stardom for your child and you want to progress fast and far - then an agent may do some extra work to get the word around. Whatever you decide make sure you do 'your homework' before selecting, and be aware of the fees involved - both for the agency and the agent...

There you go - those are the 3 most asked questions I get when people start out in the baby modeling world - I hope it helps.

But don't forget - a baby modeling agency that is good at their job and takes pride in its models, will not have anything to hide - so if you have questions - ASK!
